The Story
of Gunung Raya & Gunung Mat Cincang
There were
tree good friends – Mat Raya, Mat Cincang and Mat Sawar. The Story goes that
Mat Raya’s son was interested in marrying Mat Cincang’s daughter, much to the displeasure
of Mat Cincang as Mat Raya’s son was notorious for his bad character. Despite
much reluctance from Mat Cincang, the marriage did take place.
Unfortunately,
a fight broke out during the wedding feast. Pots and pans were flung at one
another, spilling a big pot of gravy on the ground. The spot where the gravy
spilt is now known as „Kuah“ and where the pot was broken is „Belanga Pecah“. A
couldron of hot water was also spilt on the ground and is now known as „Air
Panas“.
The fight
went on until it was intervened by Mat Sawar. Both parties finally reconciled
but transformed into what is currently the well known mountains in the heart of
Langkawi island, Gunung Raya and Gunung Mat Cincang.
